JOB OBJECTIVE 

The Position Holder is responsible for providing oversight over the research / analysis of securities data target industries, markets, and capital markets.   

The holder will adopt a consultative approach within Leadway’s associated companies, Portfolio Managers and Client Advisors to develop and execute investment strategies. These strategies are framed by Leadway’s investment philosophy and based on current themes and client objectives across all global asset classes and product types including individual securities, mutual funds, ETFs, direct private investments, real estate. 

DIMENSIONS OF THE JOB: 

  • The Head of Investment Research at Leadway works alongside the Heads of Investment of the different companies to develop, research, recommend and direct the execution of investment strategies for the firm’s portfolios and clients. The head of investment Research will coordinate the affairs of the research team to support Portfolio managers, Actuaries and Client Advisory functions The successful candidate will be an experienced generalist with deep knowledge of all areas of research including Macroeconomics, sector coverage, fixed income strategy and quantitative research. The holder will lead extensive due diligence and investment research and confer with both internal advisors and outside product providers, company management, to determine the appropriateness of investment decisions  

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 
 

  1. Oversees the collection of market data & trend-spotting on various classes of security instruments, and their transformation into actionable information through fundamental, technical, and quantitative analysis, presented in periodic research notes with the aim of supporting investment decision-making by both internal and external clientele 
  2. Provide analytical support in the production, and maintenance of marketing collaterals for the securities business. 
  3. Portfolio Optimization: Lead detailed, and extensive analysis of investment portfolios to both internal teams, and the company’s clientele with the aim of driving their effective decision-making in deriving maximum return, and minimizing costs
  4. Support Business Development Activities: Develop customized marketing documents, and research for the purpose of sales pitches to prospective institutional clients. The Position Holder is also expected to actively participate in the firm’s sales roadshows to both local, and foreign institutional clients
  5. Strategic Initiatives: Responsible for driving the implementation of strategic initiatives that sustain / improve the organization’s competitive advantage within its operating environment.
  6. Product Development: Contribute to the creation, or modification the company’s product offerings with the objective of providing new or additional benefits to customers, as well as enhancing the company’s competitiveness and market dominance.
  7. The Director will also participate in variety of investment strategy/policy committees, as appropriate, and may be called upon to represent the firm.

KNOWLEDGE ,SKILLS AND BEHAVIOUR (Required to succeed in Role) 
Educational qualifications  & functional / technical skills 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative subject with Second class upper 
  • A professional qualification of CFA or a masters degree in a related finance courses 
  • Rapid decision making ability using a consistent well-reasoned approach  
  • Ability to multi-task in a highly visible fast-paced and team-oriented environment  
  • Excellent knowledge of Bloomberg, FactSet or any data analytics suit.   
  • MS skills and exposure to investment software 
Relevant experience (type of experience and minimum number of years 
  • Minimum of 7 years in investment

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, tight timelines, multiple priorities, and demanding customers, in a fast-moving, constantly changing environment.
